With proper care and maintenance, your investment will provide you with years of elegance and beauty for your home.
Do not wash the louvers or shutter panel with water on a regular basis. Although the wood is sealed, water or even excessive dampness (exposure to steam, rain or outside irrigation systems) can cause the louvers to warp or become discolored. Avoid chemical solvents and abrasive cleaners. Ultrasonic cleaning is not recommended for custom wood shutters.
The best method of cleaning is to regularly use a clean, dry feather duster, cleaning cloth, dusting mitt or brush attachment of a vacuum cleaner to remove dust or debris. To assure thorough cleaning, open the shutter panel so that both sides of the panel can be cleaned, then tilt the louvers upward until closed and proceed to dust. Repeat the process with the louvers tilted down.
Like any fine wood furnishing, stained shutters should be treated periodically with lemon oil or other wood preservative product to protect their finish and enhance their lustre.
Regular cleaning will enhance the look of the natural wood and bring out the distinguishing characteristics such as color variations, mineral deposits and grain patterns. Such natural, random variations make each panel a unique treasure to enjoy.
