Motorization & Window Automation

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Why Should I Motorize My Draperies, Blinds Or Shades?
There are a variety of reasons that range from convenience to safety to environmental protection to security, and more. And with the larger or more hard to reach windows in today’s homes, motorization enables you to control light and temperature at your discretion without long and unsightly dangling cords that are not safe for children and pets.
  2. Is Motorization Expensive?
The size and style of your window treatment affects the price, and so does the way you want to control it. Most homeowners don’t motorize every window treatment in their home, and so motorization accounts for just a fraction of the overall budget. Obviously motorized treatments are priced more than standard manual treatments – but when measured against the luxury, convenience, improved safety and efficiency that comes with them, they’re really not expensive at all!
  3. What’s The Difference Between Motorization And Automation?
A motorized treatment is controlled by you, with the push of a button or the flick of a switch. An automated treatment is controlled automatically by a central home control system, a timer, a light sensor, or other automation devices. Remember that even with automated shades, you always have the ability to operate them with a remote or wall switch at any time.
  4. Does Motorization Require Extensive Wiring?
Not with our Plug-N-Play systems, which require no wiring at all! And in cases where wiring is required, our certified installers and electricians know how to get the job done quickly, efficiently, with the least possible disruption – and they always clean up after themselves.
  5. What About Maintenance On My Motorized Window Coverings?
No normal or scheduled maintenance is ever required for any of our systems, except for shades powered by batteries.

Our systems are easily interfaced with all automation systems including; Crestron, Homeworks, Control 4, Z Wave, Vantage, Superna and HAI, just to name a few. Our certified installers will work closely with your automation integrator to ensure seamless control to whatever system you have.
  9. Can I Use My Computer To Control My Shades?
Yes you can! A qualified Integrator can do this easily, and we can recommend one for you.
  10. Can I Retrofit My Existing Blinds, Shades or Draperies To Motorize Them?
While some treatments can be retrofit, there are several specific things we’d need to check first before we could give you an answer. Often, it is less expensive to replace your old treatment altogether. Either way, we can help.
  11. What Kind Of Warranty Do Motorized Shades Carry?
All of our motorized products are manufactured with the highest quality technical components and electronics, and are designed to give you many years of dependable service and convenience. Warranty periods vary somewhat depending on the manufacturer, but usually are five years on the motor.
  12. Can More Than One Motorized Treatment Be Connected To The Same Switch?
Yes, and there are different ways to do that, depending on what type of switch and/or motor is used.
  13. Can I Use One Remote Control To Control Multiple Shades?
Yes, One remote control can operate many shades individually. You don’t need a separate remote control for each shade.
  14. Can I Combine Different Styles Of Treatments On The Same System?
You can combine multiple styles within the system and use the same remote or central automated control.
  15. Do Motorized Shades Install Like Conventional Manual Shades?
Yes. The motor is built in as a part of the shade and the treatment is installed like any conventional shade.
