Pair wins Columbus BIA Parade of Homes gold awards | Drapery Connection

By L.B. WHYDE Advocate Reporter

NEWARK -- Julie Johnston and her partner, Jodi Homsi, didn't know what they were getting themselves into when they agreed to be the interior designers for a house on the Columbus BIA Parade of Homes.

Not only did they not realize how much work it was going to be, they never expected to win the gold award for best interior and best kitchen design.

Colours by Design planned much of the house, including the external colors, all the lighting -- both interior and exterior -- floorings, intricate tile designs, custom draperies and window treatments. They also selected all the furnishings with custom fabrics, hired a muralist to do a floral design in the girls' bedroom and hired a faux finisher for the master bedroom.

"Nothing (of the furniture) was store-bought," Johnston said. "We used all high-end fabrics."
